Robyn Moreno Plus Kathie Lee And Hoda=Crazy Holiday Decor

robyndiytoday Hola mi gente! (don’t ask, I just like saying that)

This morning I hung out with those wild and crazy gals from “The Today Show”: Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, and those ladies are HIGH ENERGY to say the least. I actually felt like the restrained one, which is kinda weird for me, :)

Anyway, we talked about how to make your own awesome holiday decor, and I turned the bubbly duo onto some pretty rad ideas!

Check out the segment HERE. If you’re looking for some last minute holiday decor ideas, here’s what we talked about:

  1. Wow up your wreathes with a few simple tricks-

* Button wreaths- make use of your pile of buttons by wrapping a foam wreath in muslin and sewing on buttons of all sizes. Pretty and clever!

* Picture frame wreath. For a truly artistic wreath, hang on an old frame slightly askew on your door with a ribbon and decorate with garland and vines for a chicly crafty wreath.

* White Christmas wreath. Coat a ho-hum store bought wreath with white matte spray paint for instant understated elegance.

2. Turn trash into tabletop treasure- Rather than toss out broken ornaments, give them new life by placing the colored balls in glass bowls creating a cool (and mod) centerpiece.

3. Make your own stockings. Turn old sweaters, flannel PJ’s and any festive fabrics into fun holiday stockings. It’s a fun activity for the kids, and a smart way to have a truly unique stocking! (Use a felt stocking to trace a template. Sew or use a fusible bonding web to piece your stocking together. The hang your one-of-a-kind creation for all to admire!)

    4. Spruce up what you got! If you haven’t the time to make your on stockings, “posh up what you got” by bringing the outdoors in. From pretty acorns to rustic twigs, explore your own backyard for some “woodland chic” accents. Plus, you can keep the kids out from underfoot by letting them forage for holiday treasure! Stuff stockings with pine cones and spruce branches for a “Ralph Lauren country” feel, display around house, over fireplace, or even on front door as a clever alternative to the predictable wreath.

    5.  Continue your country chic holiday scene by making “Birch Bark Vases.” Birch bark is a beautiful accent and easy to find. Wrap birch bark around a vase with 1⁄4 inch overlap at seam, hot glue, wrap borders of vase in yarn or ribbon, and place inside plants in these festive holders for a welcoming holiday feel!

    6. Make sure Santa’s reindeer land at your house!

For those who like powertools, create a “Birch Branch Reindeer” out of your leftover birch bark. Not only is this decoration kitsche-cool, it can also double as a parting gift for guests Make by creating a Reindeer“body out of a birch branch, drill in some holes and attach twigs for your antlers, legs, and neck. Knot twine or yarn to form tail and glue onto back, and ta da! Your very own Santa’s helper.

    7. Don’t forget the outside! Fill your window boxes with fake poinsettias, holly, berries, cedar and even sprigs of baby’s breath stuck into a dry block of florist’s foam for a beautiful holiday welcome.
