Hola friends!
Hope you’re enjoying your weekend. I am have a yoga-riffic time in Sag Harbor taking yoga teacher training with gurus Colleenn Saidman and Rodney Yee of Yoga Shanti.
It is only my second month of an eight-month course, and Mother Theresa, this sh*t is HARD!
I know, I know as it should be! Besides getting schooled on proper pose alignment, we are learning Sanskrit —do you know what Vrksasana is? I DO!—and anatomy. The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone…. yeah that and miniscus’, psoas muscles, and tibulas, oh my poor frontal lobe, I mean HEAD!
Anyway, one of the coolest aspects of getting certified though is getting to work with kids, and I jump started the fun by volunteering with an organization called Bent on Learning, which teaches yoga and meditation to school children grades K-12 in NYC.
Kids in the city have some of the highest rates of obesity in all of the country so to help them get fit and Zen is such an amazing honor, I can’t wait to start!
Check out the organizations website here, and see if they have something similar in your ‘hood.
Mother Theresa said “Be kind and merciful. Let no one ever come to you without coming away better and happier.”
If I can help a child be more kind, peaceful, and self assured, and create less agression in the world, then doing eight months of heads stands is MORE than worth it.
Peace and love,
Robyn
